Vitamin D*action has achieved a major milestone: ‘Moving Research into PRACTICE’ is now a reality! And, it has created a ‘new’ group, the Citizen Scientists!

Tomorrow, November 10, 2022, marks a BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY of Dr. Cedric Garland, Dr. PH, and Dr. Robert P. Heaney†, two key FOUNDING SCIENTISTS of GrassrootsHealth who have constantly ‘given’ to help us all.

At this time, we’d like to thank them by appreciating their scientific gifts and actively spreading the word even more!

A VERY PERSONAL ‘THANK YOU’ TO ALL who have been involved in the GrassrootsHealth D*action project

To have state and national governments across the world acknowledge the need for vitamin D as a public health measure is a major accomplishment that wouldn’t have happened without all of you! Our biggest next step is to spread the news to the world and recognize there is much we can each do to ‘Claim the JOY of our Health’—TODAY!

As we saw the potential for vitamin D at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, we started to spread the word through our newsletters and peer-reviewed publications. As of November 8, 2022, our publication Evidence that Vitamin D Supplementation Could Reduce Risk of Influenza and COVID-19 Infections and Deaths by Grant WB, Lahore H, McDonnell SL, Baggerly CA, French CB, Aliano JL, Bhattoa HP has had more citations from well-respected journals than any other paper on vitamin D and COVID-19.

Our work, however, is not done. At this point in time, GrassrootsHealth sees the need to do a MAJOR PUSH to spread the word to massive audiences all over the world so that these messages can be a key source of the recognition that there is something each person can do for their own health TODAY!

The goal is still the same as when I founded GrassrootsHealth in 2007. After I had a very frightful experience in 2005 with a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer —without being able to find out options for how to protect my own body—it was clear to me that we all need a thorough, trusted source of information based on key scientific data to make informed choices, and a way to track if the choices we made where the correct ones. Based on my own background in science and education, I have always been convinced that our best tools are education and measurement tools that match an individual’s needs.

Working together with scientists, participants, and collaborators who truly care about our health and the efficacy of their work, we have made these tools of education and measurement available for vitamin D and its impact on health.

We need your help to support our outreach effort and continue spreading the news, and enabling more Citizen Scientists to do the same!

DONATE $25.00 TODAY to help us positively affect millions of lives! We will take this opportunity to use our extensive network to get vital information on vitamin D to ALL major health projects such as Type 1 Diabetes Prevention, the Alzheimer’s Is Preventable project, as well as to local and state government representatives around the world.

Will you help us to continue making a difference?

How Will Your Donation Help?

Extensive science reporting from GrassrootsHealth is FREE to everyone. We will continue to answer YOUR questions to provide current and scientific answers, ANALYZE your data and provide answers relevant to YOU. We will continue to create evidence-based GRAPHICS and CHARTS you can share.

Support GrassrootsHealth to address:

  • Why are there conflicting research reports about whether vitamin D helps reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, COVID-19?
  • How do nutrients affect my health (physical and mental)?
  • Can ‘it’ (vitamin D/other nutrients) work for me or my children?
  • How much vitamin D do I need?
  • What can I share with my health care practitioner?
  • When could it be toxic?
  • What are co-factors?
  • Can I get enough vitamin D from my diet or from sunshine?
  • Who is most at risk of low vitamin D levels?
  • How do I sift through all of the information out there to help make MY health choices?
  • What tools can I use to help make these choices?

Happy Birthday Anniversary to Drs. Garland & Heaney!

Who is Dr. Cedric Garland?

GrassrootsHealth was formed largely as a result of an association with Dr. Garland and his guidance about the necessary changes for public health. Since that time, he has met with GrassrootsHealth consistently to review research, methods, how to get the word out, all types of public health initiatives that have worked, not worked, etc.. As the Principle Investigator of the D*action study, he has been a cornerstone of the successes we have had with our outreach, our research, and our association with other researchers. Dr. Garland has a passion for public health; everything we do is truly a mission to help the world be a healthier place. He has participated in all our medical seminars and has helped guide us in a number of our research publications.

“Dr. Garland gives. His time, his intellect, his energies, to help the world be a better place. We thank you, Dr. Garland, from our hearts and minds, for your help with this endeavor, and we wish you a very happy birthday!”

Who was Dr. Robert Heaney?

Dr. Heaney donated his time and energy as Research Director at GrassrootsHealth from 2012 to 2016. In this capacity he consulted on studies, methodologies, and how to best change public health direction.

Dr. Heaney published Guidelines for Optimizing Design and Analysis of Clinical Studies of Nutrient Effects in Nutrition Reviews, 2014. Much research was being reviewed or done that simply did not show promise – but Dr. Heaney knew why. The research just wasn’t correct for nutrients. He published a model with specific criteria that can be used by all to objectively analyze whether a research paper’s conclusions are valid. Learn more here.

“It is very hard to write briefly about such a fantastic person – Dr. Heaney was among the most brilliant people I know, incredibly kind and respectful of all people, a peace advocate, determined to make a difference (he has!), and he exhibited a sense of gratefulness for life that was catching. I very, very much appreciate having known him and worked with him!”

How Can You Use this Information for YOUR Health?

Having and maintaining healthy vitamin D and other nutrient levels can help improve your health now and for your future. Measuring is the only way to make sure you are getting enough!

STEP 1 Order your at-home blood spot test kit to measure vitamin D and other nutrients of concern to you, such as omega-3s, magnesium, essential and toxic elements (zinc, copper, selenium, lead, cadmium, mercury); include hsCRP as a marker of inflammation or HbA1c for blood sugar health

STEP 2 Answer the online questionnaire as part of the GrassrootsHealth study

STEP 3 Using our educational materials and tools (such as our dose calculators), assess your results to determine if you are in your desired target range or if actions should be taken to get there

STEP 4 After 3-6 months of implementing your changes, re-test to see if you have achieved your target level(s)
